On supporting open source

At HackSoft, we believe in the potential of open source initiatives and actively contribute to their growth.

As a solutions company, we use open source tools and frameworks every day.

Open source enables us to build high-quality software in a productive manner.

That's why we are committed to both supporting and developing open source projects. And since we are here for the long run - we are doing this in small steps, putting effort consistently.

Here are the open source projects we’ve been working on and supporting for the past 10 years.

We are proud to be one of the sponsors of the Django Software Foundation. For the last few years, we make an additional donation, on top of our monthly one, with the help of our lovely team members. We even ordered the official Django Merchandise, to show our support even further.

Also, we’re a professional monthly sponsor of the Django Rest Framework!

We sponsored the Django Girls Fundraising Campaign.

We sponsored a local PyCon event -  PyCon Balkan, in 2018 and 2019.

We sponsored the biggest Bulgarian open source conference - OpenFest, two years in a row in 2022 and 2023.

Django Styleguide

Around 8 years ago, we decided to aggregate our combined experience from various projects, in a styleguide, for building Django applications.

This is how the Django Styleguide was born.

This is a comprehensive styleguide, describing how we approach building Django apps.

Learn more about it in our special podcast episode dedicated to the Styelguide.

Additionally, we have an example project, that serves as an example of our Django Styleguide, where people can explore actual code & not just snippets; as a Django project, where we can test various things & concepts; and as a place for all code examples from our blog.

Technical blog articles

Our commitment extends to freely sharing our insights.

Through our Django blog posts, we shed light on challenges we've faced, along with the solutions we've discovered.

These resources are readily available to all, embodying our dedication to the open source spirit.

Technical talks

Our team has given talks in numerous Django & Python conferences and meetups, spreading the knowledge we've accumulated throughout the years.

We’ve taken part in some of the biggest IT conferences in Europe such as EuroPython and DjangoCon, as well as some conferences on a local level - PyCon Balkan & OpenFest.

The team has also given talks on meetups and online seminars throughout the years, sharing their passion about our work with fellow developers.

We’ve been doing small steps into the contribution part - fixed some typos in READMEs and helped to improve documentation.

We even filed a bug to Django that got fixed quickly and released in 1.11.2!

To sum up

Our commitment lies in actively supporting and contributing to the development of the open source projects.

By harnessing the power of open source, we ensure the delivery of top-notch software that meets the highest standards of quality. That’s why we, at HackSoft, are committed to supporting (and continuing to do so!) them in all the ways above.

So, if you can support them in any way, we strongly encourage you to do so and to help the software development landscape to continue to evolve!
